CORD Rare Heroes Foundation, Thanks to Estate of Peter Ness and 1st corporate contributor Illumina
Illumina is a diagnostic company that has at its heart the mission of improving human health by unlocking the power of the genome. As a company, they are dedicated to improving the path to diagnosis for families affected by genetic and rare conditions and their technology is helping to drive genetic disease testing. Every year to celebrate Rare Disease Day, Illumina chooses four rare disease advocacy organizations from around the world to support during an internal awareness and giving campaign. This year CORD has been chosen for this Illumina employee philanthropy effort.
The illumina internal campaign began February 17th and runs through Sunday, February 28th. It is focused on reaching every corner of the globe, creating a virtual chain of light where together employees can shine a light on rare disease communities. Illumina uses a platform similar to Facebook called Workplace where meetings are organized, stories are shared, patient advocacy organizations are highlighted and employees are encouraged to post photos of “the light of their lives” with the hashtag, #illuminatingraredisease. For each photo posted, a set amount is added to a grand total and divided between CORD and three other rare disease organizations. Illumina is honored to support CORD and excited about the opportunity to work together to illuminate the unique collaborations and initiatives in Canada and around the globe.
